What is 123D Design?

AutoDesk’s 123D Design software is a free 3D graphics tool. It can be used for prototyping because it has support built into it for the most common 3D printing machines. The program has a tablet version too that allows the bones of the design to be created on the tablet, then uploaded to cloud storage for later access and design completion on a desktop.
The program has object creation tools for generating the core components of the 3D visual. These can then be manipulated using the assembly and object moving features of the editor. Users also have the ability to select specific objects within a design and put them all into a single group for faster editing later on—grouping permits users to apply a single effect or edit to the one group of objects instead of having to apply it to each part of that group one by one, in a painstaking process. Further editing options include the traditional edge, point, combination, and face editing utilities for 3D applications.
For a limited time, the program was made available as an online application that could be run straight off users’ browsers. The downloadable versions are for Mac and Windows computers.
